Timbuktu could be new 'wonder'

Cape Town-South Africans have less than 12 hours to cast their vote for the new Seven Wonders of the World and to make Timbuktu, the only African site nominated, an official "wonder", according to government news agency, BuaNews. The New7Wonders (N7W) Foundation, the body behind the New7Wonders online voting campaign (www.new7wonders.com), was created in 2001 with the aim of documenting, maintaining, restoring and reconstructing world heritage sites under the motto: "Our heritage is our future."
At the end of 2005, the N7W panel chose 21 candidates out of 77 nominees which had earned the most votes to be the new Seven Wonders of the World. These 21 candidates are now in the final stage of the competition. The official N7W 21 finalist candidates were announced by the panel's President, Professor Federico Mayor, on January 1 2006 in Zurich.Timbuktu, one of the sites which has made it into the final round of voting, is the only nominated wonder from sub-Saharan Africa and already has the backing of the South African government through the South Africa-Mali project. The project which is led by Minister in the Presidency, Essop Pahad, was established in 2002 to help preserve the Timbuktu manuscripts.President Thabo Mbeki said in an address in April this year that the Malian civilisation reached its peak when Timbuktu became the intellectual and trading hub between the 14th and 16th centuries."Timbuktu was a confluence of ideas, language and cultures. We are proud that our government is in partnership with the government of Mali to preserve and restore the thousands of ancient manuscripts of Timbuktu which tell a story of a great civilisation and a centre of learning," he said.Half of all net revenue raised by the N7W Project is to be used to fund restoration efforts worldwide. The final round of voting for the New 7 Wonders will end on Friday, and on Saturday (7 July 2007), the New 7 Wonders of the World will be announced. - BuaNews
PS:The most exciting news about Timbuktu though to me is that the Gospel is being preached at that remote location considered thru ages as "the end of the world".When the Lord Jesus spoke to His disciples about the time of His coming He said that this Gospel would be preached unto the ends of the earth and then He would come!If the Gospel is being preached at the ends of the earth right now, then our salvation draweth nigh and nigh!!!Jesus is round the corner!!!Maranatha Lord Jesus!!!!We ARE in the days of Noah....!!!
As in the days of Noah...
