In a move that can only be described as prophetic, Israel's foreign ministry is working hard to cement ties to the EU. The private sector is also working to promote closer ties with the EU. This movement toward the EU is nothing short of amazing, and provides the backdrop for what the Bible says is going to happen. On June 3, 2007 senior European and Israeli officials met at a one-day forum addressing the future of EU-Israel relations. The meeting, called at the initiative of Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, was arranged with the assistance and coordination of the German head of the rotating EU presidency and EU External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner. The objective of the day-long event was to examine possibilities of improving relations between Israel and the European states in various fields. The forum will submit a written report by the end of the year to the European and Israeli foreign ministers, including recommendations and practical suggestions. A peace settlement in the Middle East is one of the most important events predicted for the end times. The signing of this peace treaty will start the final seven-year countdown leading to Armageddon. Daniel chapters 7 and 9 point to this momentous event, with Daniel 7:7 and 7:24 referring to the participation of a confederacy of nations that many interpreters of Bible prophecy believe is the European Union.
