The president of a pro-family group in California says leaders of religious groups who are using the name of God to try and justify homosexuality are full-blown apostates.Last weekend, a number of liberal religious groups took part in New York City's annual LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Pride Parade. Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum, who was one of the parade's grand marshals, said those who were using religion to advocate "an anti-gay agenda"-"right-wing religious bigots," she called them in a New York Post article-were blaspheming God's name. Kleinbaum heads the world's largest predominantly homosexual synagogue. The rabbi's fellow grand marshal was Troy Newman, founder of the Metropolitan Community Church, a nationwide coalition of pro-homosexual churches.Phil Magnan, president of Biblical Family Advocates, says many religious leaders have total disregard for God's Word. "We've now entered into an era where we're in what I would call full-blown apostasy, where people have embraced sin and have called it good-and Christ calls us to repentance and not to embrace sin," he says.Magnan says he finds that trend disturbing. "It does not seem to be backing down by any stretch," he laments. "It's continuing to grow exponentially."The pro-family leader admits he finds it shocking to see more religious leaders going against the clear teachings of scripture regarding homosexuality."As long as we allow this kind of deception to continue, many people will be pulled into homosexuality and into other aberrant forms of relationship," he warns. "And quite honestly, it's a sad thing to see so many people pulled into that bondage-and sadly, it's in the name of God that they're actually being pulled into it."Magnan says Christians, especially pastors, must not back down from the biblical condemnation of homosexuality and other sins.
