END TIMES WEATHER:Mudslide Destroys Homes In Colorado

ALPINE, Colo. At least 125 people have been evacuated after several mudslides in Colorado. The slide happened Saturday night, after a heavy rainstorm, covering County Road 292B.All residents of Alpine and campers around the area were evacuated to a shelter at Buena Vista High School. The Red Cross Disaster Assessment Team was coming in Sunday afternoon to help the evacuees.Chaffee County fire chief Jim Wingert toured the damaged buildings in the town Sunday morning. "What I saw this morning shocked me," he told CBS Denver.Wingert said no one was hurt or injured in the slide, but that land, timber and landscape was "all over the place."He didn't know how many homes were damaged, but said "for every home not damaged, there is another home that is damaged.""It's going to take a lot of work to bring Alpine back to what it once was," Chief Wingert said.Chaffee County Commissioner Jim Osborne said he is concerned about the residents safety. He says residents will be kept out until a full damage assessment can be done."It's going to take some time, we are a smaller county," Osborne said, noting the commissioners plan to ask the state for help. The commissioners were set to meet Sunday morning to talk about how to request disaster aid.County sheriffs are allowing evacuated campers to go back in to retrieve their items.Wingert says the area affected is a rugged, steep and canyon.
