CULTURE of DEATH:Banned from seaside after 50 suicide attempts

A WOMAN has been banned from going into the sea around the entire British coastline after trying to drown herself more than 50 times.Amy Beth Dallamura's suicide attempts over the past five years have cost emergency services about $2.3 million. The 44-year-old, from Aberystwyth in west Wales, has tried to kill herself by jumping off piers and jetties and wading into the ocean.
Police, lifeboats, coast guards and the RAF's rescue helicopters have been involved in rescuing her.One policeman received a bravery award after swimming almost 300m out to sea to save her.Police fear her regular cries for help are wasting emergency resources and putting lives at risk.In January, magistrates gave Ms Dallamura an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) banning her from entering the sea, beaches and parts of the Aberystwyth promenade. But last month she breached the order four times in five days.Police stopped the former golf professional from entering the sea on June 21.Later that day she was winched from a cliff face. On June 23, she had to be flown to hospital after being pulled from the water. Two days later she phoned police threatening to kill herself in the sea and was found on rocks suffering hypothermia.Ms Dallamura faced Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court last week for breaching the ASBO.She was bailed to an address in Sussex-which is why the order was extended to cover all coastal waters. She will be sentenced for the breach next month.Prosecutor Chris James told the January hearing:"She is playing an elaborate game of cat and mouse with police."Lawyer Peter Wigan said his client's troubles began in 2001 when health problems left her in constant pain with limited mobility in her back and hips.Ms Dallamura said the pain was leading her to desperation.Police claim her suicide bids are anti-social because they cause distress to those who see her.A police spokesman said experts were satisfied Ms Dallamura did not have a mental illness.
