THEY monitor emails and use hidden cameras. Some enforce drug and psychological tests.Now there are fears Australian bosses could learn a lot more about staff though genetic tests.It might sound far fetched but in some parts of the world people have been refused jobs on the basis of genetic tests which have shown they could develop certain diseases in the future.In 2004 a woman in Germany was refused a teaching job on the basis of a medical examination that found she had a family history of the degenerative Huntington’s Disease.In 2001 in the US a railway company was found to have secretly tested employees for carpal tunnel syndrome.In Hong Kong in 2000 three men were refused employment with the government because of a family history of schizophrenia.There have been anecdotal reports of it happening in Australia but no confirmed instances.At least that was the case in 2004 when a report on the issue was released by the Australian Law ReformCommission (ALRC)and Australian Health Ethics Committee(AHEC).But that might be about to change.At the end of this year the Australian Genetic Discrimination Project(GDP),formed in 2002,is due to reveal the findings of an investigation to uncover cases of genetic discrimination in the
workplace....
