(Kerala, India)-Bible teacher Dr. Mathai Mathai has asked for prayer as a health crisis has hit his home state of Kerala, in India. Last week, about 500,000 people had become infected with a fatal sickness known as "chicken goonia," and many were dying. This week the number of those infected has doubled, as a Malayalam newspaper reported that 1,000,000 people have the sickness which has now been classified as a virus, untreatable with antibiotics.
Doctors reportedly can only give a "Tylenol-like" pill to ease fever and pain symptoms, which doesn't stop the virus from killing those infected.According to Mathai, there are five different viruses spreading through the region, only one of which is not fatal.Dr. Mathai and Mariamma Mathai run a Bible school and orphanage in Kerala, India. They are praying that God will make their properties like the "land of Goshen in the days of the plague in Egypt." And that it will be a place of healing and protection for all the orphans, students, teachers and their families, as well as those who may come there for shelter. They are also praying that God will be glorified as they declare His goodness through Jesus, and that His Kingdom would come there. When not in India, Dr. Mathai is Dean of Students and a teacher at the Training for Reigning School of Kingdom Ministry, in Albany, Oregon.
