DIVERSITY A REFLECTION OF COMMUNITY

A growing, multi-ethnic church in Queens, New York recently acquired a permanent facility. Grace Baptist Church believes the diversity of the community should be reflected in the church. Norm Nicklas of Association of Baptists for World Evangelism: "The ideal, I believe, according to even the Bible, is that you should try to reach everyone within the ministry area of your church. For example, I was there Sunday. There were many ladies from India who were wearing their saris. There were many folks from the projects. There were other folks from Jamaica." The preaching is done in English, but the music reveals the cultural variety. Nicklas suggests other inner-city churches often struggle because "they become less and less effective as they try to do the same thing with different cultural and ethnic groups that do not respond to that particular model of ministry." Grace Baptist offers lots of community outreach. Nicklas is asking you to pray that more churches target the inner city because of their influence in society.
